A few hours ago, the NDA for the publication of full reviews of GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB video cards expired. Technical journalists, who were able to get the appropriate adapters for testing earlier, finally shared the results of their research. The whole list of publications with posts of reviews is available.

For a superficial analysis of the first results, we will use the indicators obtained by colleagues from TechPowerUp, which tested a reference model GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti performance 1080p

First, the most interesting chart with the average relative performance of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB in Full HD mode based on the results of tests in 25 games. As you can see, the capabilities of the new product are very close to those of the GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB and almost identical to the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB. That is, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is only 12-15% faster than its predecessor, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB. A relatively modest performance boost compared to what we’ve seen with the top-of-the-line models of the new RTX 40xx series.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti: performance test results. Did you expect more?

If we talk about absolute indicators, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB managed to provide an average of about 130 fps in Full HD mode with maximum quality settings (without RT and DLSS).

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti average FPS 1080p

Of course, the average fps is lower in the most difficult projects (The Callisto Protocol – 78 fps; RDR 2 – 89 fps; Cyberpunk 2077 – 93 fps), but in general, these are very comfortable indicators.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti RT-performance 1080p

In modes with ray tracing, the situation does not fundamentally change. On average, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti managed to outperform the GeForce RTX 3070 by 1% here.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti performance DLSS

The advantage of GeForce RTX 40xx models is the support of Frame Generation and the DLSS 3 scaling technology implemented on its basis. The support of this version usually allows a noticeable increase in performance. And yes, it will help, including the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti. NVIDIA recently reported that the number of games with DLSS 3 has already exceeded three dozen.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti power consumption

The power consumption of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is also excellent. The declared TGP of 160 W initially set benchmarks. Practical tests confirmed the indicators. And for games, the video card consumed about 152 W. A very good result for graphics adapters of this class. The similar performance GeForce RTX 3070 required 232 W. With nearly identical fps, it’s not hard to appreciate the overall improvement in power efficiency.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti: performance test results. Did you expect more?

NVIDIA is initially positioning the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti as a solution for games in Full HD mode. But despite the 128-bit bus and low memory bandwidth (288GB/s), even at 1440p and 4K, the 8GB model doesn’t look bad at all. So, in 1440p it is inferior to GeForce RTX 3070 by 4%, and in 4K the difference increases to 9%. However, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, even in “uncomfortable” conditions, is still ahead of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB and the Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB. However, 4K is definitely not for video cards of this class, especially if there is a desire to use modes with maximum image quality.

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition

In general, after the first acquaintance with the results of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, mixed feelings remain. On the one hand, we get a graphics card with an MSRP of $399 that has RTX 3070-level performance with an MSRP of $499. At the same time, the novelty is much more economical than the previous generation model and supports the promising DLSS 3. On the other hand, compared to its immediate predecessor – GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, with an identical starting price, the new model has a performance increase of only 12-15% in Full HD, about 10% – in 1440p, and 5–6% – in 4K mode. Not too modest an improvement considering it’s been 2.5 years since the RTX 3060 Ti was introduced?
