Pixel smartphones, as well as some other Android devices, offer users the Personal Safety app, which includes several useful features such as Emergency Sharing, Safety Check and Car Crash Detection. And it seems that soon the application will receive another innovation.

Google has released an update for Personal Safety (version 2023.04.27.532191641.8-dogfood), in the code of which the team of 9to5google managed to find and activate the new Dashcam feature. In fact, it allows you to use a smartphone as a video recorder.

After starting the Dashcam, you can continue to use the device, for example open the navigation. Or, on the contrary, lock the screen to save battery power. Video recording will continue in the background.

The start of the video recorder function can be automated – the smartphone will start recording on its own after connecting via Bluetooth to your car’s media system. Video clips will be deleted 3 days after recording. The size of a 1-minute video is 30 MB on average. The maximum length of a video recording is 24 hours. You can also enable or disable audio recording.

The Dashcam function looks quite ready for release, so we can expect its official announcement in the near future.
