Xiaomi announced about the release of an updated version of the TV media player Mi Box S, which was released back in 2018 – the new model was named TV Box S (2nd Gen).

The new TV Box S works on Google TV (for the first generation, the last version of the system was Android TV 9.0), the remote control supports Bluetooth 5.2 and almost did not change the design, receiving only a couple of new buttons for streaming services. The player itself is also outwardly no different from the first model.

TV Box S (2nd Gen) can play 4K video in AV1, VP9 and HEVC, supports common HDR standards (HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision) and can decode audio in Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD formats. The player uses SoC Amlogic S905X4 (the first generation was based on AMLogic S905L), 2 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage are installed. Although Xiaomi advertises the device as having HDMI 2.1, the claimed bandwidth only corresponds to 2.0 (maximum 4K@60).
