Xiaomi presented its ultimate flagship of 2023. The main focus of the company was on the photo capabilities of the device, so it is not surprising that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra received the top software.

The camera unit, which significantly increases the thickness of the device, consists of four modules with Leica lenses. The main one is a 50 MP 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor with a variable aperture of f/1.9 or f/4.0. Shooting with an aperture of f/1.9 creates a shallow depth of field, while an aperture of f/4.0 provides a wider focal range. Xiaomi is not the first to offer such technology in smartphones, and it is interesting to see in practice what the Xiaomi 13 Ultra camera is capable of.

Moreover, the device is equipped with three more 50 MP Sony IMX858 sensors. The ultra-wide-angle camera has an aperture of f/1.8 and a viewing angle of 122 degrees. The other two modules are telephoto lenses. They are capable of taking photos with magnification from 3.2x (equivalent to 75 mm, f/1.8) to 10x (equivalent to 240 mm, f/3.0).

Xiaomi also worked on the camera software. Two color modes are available to users: Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. There’s also a 50MP UltraRAW mode where you’ll get 14-bit DNG files for post-processing. By the way, Adobe should release a custom camera profile for Lightroom. In addition, there is a Fast Shot mode that allows you to take a photo in just 0.8 seconds. It is perfect for street photographers. Preparation time is reduced as the user pre-sets the focus distance.

As for other specifications, Xiaomi 13 Ultra received a 6.73″ LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200×1440 pixels, a frequency of 1-120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 2600 nits. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 12/16 GB of RAM LPDDR5X, and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage There’s also a 32MP front-facing camera (f/2.0).

The battery has a capacity of 5000 mAh, and supports 90 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. For emergencies, a hibernation mode is provided, during which the smartphone consumes only 1% of the charge for 1 hour of operation in standby mode (or for 12 minutes of calls). The USB-C 3.2 port supports data transfer at a speed of up to 5 Gbps. It has IP68 protection against moisture and dust.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is available in black, green, and white (the latter will not be available globally). The back cover is covered with artificial leather. The price in China is from €795. However, it is expected that in Europe the price tag for the smartphone will start at €1,299.
