NVIDIA has announced the release of the technology preview Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode for Cyberpunk 2077. It will take place on April 11, 2023.

Unlike the previous ray tracing methods already used in Cyberpunk 2077, the so-called full ray tracing accurately simulates the light in the entire scene. Previous methods were individually created using shadow ray tracing, reflections, and global lighting for a small number of light sources. Full ray tracing simulates the properties of light from a virtually unlimited number of sources, providing physically correct shadows, reflections, and global lighting on all objects.

Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode preview is not the final version of the technology, but just a sneak peek into the future of full ray tracing. NVIDIA and CD PROJEKT RED are going to work together on further technology improvements, bug fixes and performance optimizations.

You can see how full ray tracing looks in 4K on the GeForce RTX 40 Series in the video.
