Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors will officially go on sale tomorrow (04/06). The younger model of the line with a significantly increased L2 cache capacity should become a very attractive option for demanding players. With an MSRP of $449, this CPU looks like it will be able to compete with top-end, more expensive chips in certain tasks.

Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs Ryzen 9 7950X3D performance

If we focus on the indicators from AMD itself, then the expected model has very similar in-game indicators to those for the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. According to the results of internal tests in two dozen games in Full HD mode with high quality settings, Ryzen 7 7800X3D provides performance at the level of 92-113% compared to the flagship of the series. As you can see in the screenshot, the base model with 3D V-Cache even outperforms the Ryzen 9 7950X3D in some projects. The difference is especially noticeable in Far Cry 6 (+13%), Total War: Three Kingdoms (+6%) and Horizon Zero Dawn (+4%). Whereas in Cyberpunk 2077, the expected model turned out to be 8% slower.

Ryzen 7 7800X3D specs

These are excellent figures, considering that the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has a frequency formula of 4.2/5.0 GHz instead of 4.2/5.7 GHz of the top 16-core. Such results can be explained by the fact that the 8-core chip uses one CCD, which is directly equipped with an additional 3D V-Cache, while in the older 12/16-core models, only one of the two CCD chips has an additional buffer, so synchronization needs longer delays.

This is an important nuance, considering that the Ryzen 7000X3D chips do not support overclocking with an increase in the multiplier. Some performance gains can be achieved by using DDR5-6000 with low timings and PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) optimizations.

Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs. Core i9-13900K gaming performance

Previously, AMD had already preliminarily focused on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D’s capabilities, comparing its gaming performance with that of the Core i9-13900K. According to the results of the internal tests of the developers, the nimble 8-core, reinforced by the huge L3, should be an average of 7% more productive than the top model of Intel.

As for the comparison of Ryzen 7 7800X3D with its predecessor – Ryzen 7 5800X3D, an advantage of 20-30% is generally promised here in competitive projects.

We know the desperation of marketing departments who usually try to highlight and embellish the strengths of their companies’ products. To what extent it is justified and corresponds to the real state of affairs, we will find out today, after the results of independent tests will be published.
