The Xbox Game Pass service is Microsoft’s powerful trump card in the fight against Sony (as well as for PC market share). It became known how much the company earns from Xbox Game Pass subscriptions per year.

As reported by Tweak Town, the $2.9 billion figure was revealed in the documents Microsoft filed with Brazil’s market regulator CADE, which, among other countries’ regulators, is reviewing the deal Microsoft – Activision Blizzard.

At the same time, it is known that in 2021, the gaming division generated $16.28 billion in revenue – $3.7 billion accounted for the sale of consoles and hardware for them, and $12.58 for games and services. That is, the revenue from the sale of the Xbox Game Pass subscription is 18% of the total revenue of the Xbox division, or almost 30% of the revenue from games.

And it’s with the number of subscribers from 15 to 18 million (the number changed during 2021). In Q3 FY2022 (as of January 2022), Xbox Game Pass already had 25 million users. That is, in 2022, the service should bring in even more money, at least 30% more.

It seems that Microsoft’s bet on the subscription model is paying off. And the deal with Activision Blizzard will make Xbox Game Pass even more attractive to players.
