The mobile gacha game Genshin Impact from the Chinese company MiHoYo, in 2 years since its release (the game was released on Android, iOS, iPadOS, PlayStation 4 and Windows on September 28, 2020), brought in $3.7 billion in revenue on mobile platforms alone.

According to Sensor Tower analysts, although Genshin Impact is behind the projects like Tencent’s Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile by combined two-year revenue, it’s the most compelling new mobile IP since Honor of Kings launched in 2015.

The Genshin Impact game generated $3.7 billion in revenue on mobile platforms in 2 years

The Chinese market remains the most important for Genshin Impact. Only here and only on iOS (numerous Chinese clones of the Android market are difficult to track), the game generated $1.2 billion in two years. Income from PC and console versions is usually significantly (by an order of magnitude) inferior to income from mobile versions of games.

Now the MiHoYo studio is preparing two big projects at once. Fantasy games in the setting of steampunk – Honkai: Star Rail and cyberpunk – Zenless Zone Zero.
