Hugh Jackman has joined the cast of Marvel director Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3 as the mutant Wolverine. Jackman himself will star for the first time since James Mangold’s Logan in 2017, reports The Verge.

Deadpool 3 will be the first film in the franchise since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2017. This move returned all intellectual property rights to the X-Men comics, including Wolverine and Deadpool, back to Marvel Studios. Despite concerns over whether the Deadpool franchise will keep its grit after the rights return, Kevin Feige says Marvel intends to keep the mutant mercenary movies R-rated.

With the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming to a close, it’s safe to assume that The X-Men is an important part of the studio for the foreseeable future.
