The sequel of the Oscar-winning film Joker will be released on October 4, 2024. The date was announced on Thursday and the director Todd Phillips already confirmed it on Instagram. The main role, as in the first film, will be played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Lady Gaga will also join the cast of Joker 2. Her role has not yet been announced, but she may well play Harley Quinn, the Joker’s long-time partner. Previously, Phillips said that the film will be released under the name Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates as “madness for two”. The film is said to have more musical elements planned, so Lady Gaga’s involvement makes sense.

Although Joker was meant to be a one-off film, its box-office success and numerous Academy Awards (it won 11, including Best Picture) made a sequel inevitable. It becomes especially relevant against the background of the poor performance of films from Warner Bros. based on DC Comics.

The production of the film Joker: Folie à Deux should begin in December this year.
