For more than a year, gaming laptops continue to increase not only power, but also other equally important characteristics. Sometimes some of them exceed all expectations. This is also the case with Alienware’s updated m17 R5 and x17 R2 models, which will soon offer display options with an exceptional 480Hz refresh rate. This is a third faster than the previous indicators. Currently, not all gaming monitors can afford this, not to mention options in laptops.

Such matrices will have a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a response speed of 3 ms. In its application, the manufacturer says that this should affect “animation smoothness for easier target tracking, ghosting reduction which minimizes distracting effects, and lower system latency, making it easier for you to spot other players earlier.”

In addition, the displays will offer a backlight level of up to 300 cd/m² and 100% of the sRGB color space. Support for AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync adaptive synchronization technologies is also noted.

Such laptops must also have good hardware. The m17 R5 is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor (8 cores/16 threads, 4.9 GHz), AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT graphics cards (12 GB GDDR6, up to 175 W), or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (16 GB GDDR6, up to 155 W and 1410 MHz), 64 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 4-terabyte drive.

The x17 R2 model will offer Intel Core i9-12900HK (14 cores/20 threads, up to 5 GHz) and NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti (16 GB) with the same RAM and storage options, but in a slimmer case.

For this refresh rate, Alienware will increase the price tag by $300 compared to conventional matrices with this indicator at 165 Hz. Other options, of course, include higher-resolution 4K configurations, where the refresh rate remains at 120Hz, albeit with the same response speed.
