Nothing phone (1) will have a mid-range Snapdragon 778G+ processor
The company of one of the founders of OnePlus Carl Pei continues to share information about their first smartphone, which was called Nothing phone (1). We already know what the design of its case will look like with the use of 900 LEDs on the back, but the main characteristics of the model were still kept secret. At least until today, when Nothing confirmed to the Input that the phone (1) will have a Snapdragon 778G+ processor, which belongs to the middle level.
This chip from Qualcomm is a slightly updated version of the existing Snapdragon 778G processor, and as they say in Nothing, it was created specifically for the phone (1). The “plus” version has the same architecture with four productive ARM Cortex-A78 cores and four energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores. The Adreno 652L accelerator is responsible for graphics processing in the chip, in addition, there is support for 5G networks thanks to the X53 modem.
In fact, the only significant innovation in the Snapdragon 778G + is the support for wireless and reversible wireless charging, which Qualcomm usually uses only in the flagship solutions.
According to Carl Pei, the use of a mid-range processor is due to the ratio of speed, energy efficiency, and cost. The co-founder of Nothing believes that smartphones have achieved sufficient performance to perform common tasks, and more powerful chips have less impact. In addition, the Snapdragon 778G + is more energy efficient, which means a higher level of battery life.
Using a flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or 8+ Gen 1, would also result in an increase in the cost of the smartphone, while Nothing phone (1) would sell for less than $500.
