E-commerce giant Amazon is launching the Amazon Prime Air service to deliver customers’ purchases with a drone fleet in Lockeford, California.

Amazon has worked with the Federal Aviation Administration and local officials in this small town south of Sacramento to get permission to fly drones.

For safe operation, drones use sensory and avoidance systems. According to Amazon, they will be able to reliably avoid obstacles, including other aircraft, people and pets.

Once the system is up and running, Lockford customers will be able to order products through Amazon Prime Air and wait for the drone to arrive. It will fly to his destination, go down to the client’s backyard and drop the package from a safe height before flying away.
