Players “love” microtransactions, especially hardcore players. Players especially “love” when microtransactions appear in classic game series, on which whole generations of gamers have grown up. For example, Diablo. That is why, on the eve of the release of Diablo Immortal, which is being prepared for release on June 2, 2022 Blizzard decided to assure fans that the microtransactions in the new part of Diablo will not interfere with the familiar basic gameplay.

In an interview with PCGamesN, game chief designer Joe Grubb explained how it is the microtransactions implemented in Diablo Immortal. It seems that all microtransactions are completely optional and do not require access to any part of the game. Some of the items that can be bought for money will speed up the execution of a combat pass, but you still will not be able to buy equipment or experience points.

“A lot of conversation went into our philosophy around it. We talked a lot about how optional purchases are just a bonus, they do not interfere with the main gameplay in any way,” says Grubb, “You still need the skills to play your class, you still need to know how to play a barbarian to be a successful barbarian.”

In the same interview, Diablo CEO Rod Ferguson hoped that free multi-platform games such as Fortnite and Genshin Impact would help players be more lenient with Diablo with microtransactions. Roughly speaking, players have already got used to this kind of monetization and do not meet it with bayonets.

“What’s amazing to me is that when you have a game like this you can play every aspect of this game for free,” says Ferguson. “You can play the entire campaign for free, you can play raids and the Cycle of Strife and everything, for free. And we’re going to support it with new zones and dungeons and new character classes post-launch for free”.

But it seems that all these loud statements did not help Diablo Immortal. It is because of micro-transactions that the game is no longer allowed into the markets of Belgium and the Netherlands, and there are fears that some other European countries may follow suit.

This is not yet the case in Ukraine. Diablo Immortal can now be rebooted into Battle.net. The game will be unlocked on June 2, 2022. At the same time it will be available on Android and iOS.
