Package contents

HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless comes in a small box in the company's traditional bright yellow color with an image of a mouse and basic technical information.

The box contains the HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless itself, a wireless 8K transmitter with a Type-C connector, a 1.8 m USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, a set of replaceable Teflon feet, a set of stickers, and instructions.

Design and construction

HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless is a medium-sized wireless mouse with a very popular and successful symmetrical shape with additional buttons for the right hand only. Dimensions are 125x64x40 mm, and weight is 65 g. Quite comfortable indicators for medium-sized hands and lovers of palm grip.

The mouse is made entirely of matte plastic with an extremely pleasant coating. It contributes to a secure grip and is very pleasant to the touch. It is pleasing that manufacturers are experimenting with colors. The editorial office received a white model with purple accents. It looks original. There is a backlight for the wheel, as well as a thin strip on the back of the mouse. There is a small Hator logo on the left main button, and on the side is the inscription 8K.

The main buttons of the HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless are separated from the rest of the case and have a completely symmetrical shape. They fit perfectly, do not shake or wobble. The height of the buttons is the same, and the Type-C connector for wired connection or charging is located in a small recess clearly in the middle of the front of the case.

The scroll wheel has a rubber coating with transverse notches. It is fully illuminated and acts as an indicator of the current DPI mode. A little closer to the front of the mouse there is a small LED indicator that informs about the low battery level and lights up during charging.

There are no additional notches or rubber inserts on the side edges. However, thanks to the barely noticeable finger grooves and a good coating, the mouse does not slip. The additional side buttons are large and convex, so they are comfortable to press.

The included cable is 1.8 m long and has a Paracord fabric braid. It is very soft, the cable is lightweight and convenient for wired connection. Interestingly, the Type-C connector has a slight angle, so it does not cling to the surface.

The USB transmitter is quite large and does not have its own USB connector. Instead, it connects to the PC exclusively with a cable, which is not very convenient. An option with a compact USB transmitter and a separate adapter for using 8000 Hz would be more convenient.

The entire bottom of the HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless is purple. It has two large Teflon slides, an additional Teflon insert around the optical sensor hole, a DPI mode switching button, and a three-position connection mode switch.

Ergonomics, shape and weight

As already mentioned above, the HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless has a familiar, proven and comfortable symmetrical shape, as well as average dimensions and weight. The mouse is great for gripping with the palm or fingers, if the hand is large. The claw grip is not so convenient due to the dimensions, as well as the not very large bend. The only thing is that the weight distribution is not ideal: the mouse can fall back a little. Presumably due to the position of the battery inside the case.

Under the main buttons of the HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless are branded optical switches HATOR Optical, which are manufactured for the company by Kailh. The declared resource is 100 clicks, the pressing force is 65 ±10% gf. To register the click, not a mechanical closure of contacts is used, but an optical sensor, thanks to which it is possible to achieve almost zero delay. According to impressions, the buttons are comfortable, have a clear, informative click and an average travel distance.

The scroll wheel uses a TTC Gold encoder with dust protection. It works almost silently at any scroll speed. But I would like clearer cutoffs. The rubber coating of the wheel provides good grip. The additional buttons are large, with a clear gap. This allows you to press the desired one without error.

Functionality and capabilities

HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless has received the top-of-the-line PixArt PAW 3950 optical sensor, which is used in most modern flagship mice. It has a maximum resolution of 30,000 DPI, a maximum tracking speed of 750 inches per second and a maximum acceleration of 50g. This is an excellent sensor with a performance margin that will probably be used to the full by a few users. It is very accurate, has no problems with jerks or jerks.

HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless can be connected in three ways: via a 2.4 GHz radio channel using the included transmitter, via a cable, or via Bluetooth. In the first two cases, a polling frequency of up to 8000 Hz is supported, in the latter - 125 Hz. This indicator will be enough for operation. The connection via radio channel and Bluetooth is stable, there were no disconnections during use.

Inside the mouse is a 500 mAh battery, which should be enough for 52 hours of battery life in wireless mode. The actual figure will depend on the usage scenario: backlight, DPI level, polling rate, etc. According to my own impressions, with an average brightness level, 8000 Hz and 3200 DPI, it really works out to be about 50 hours. This is not the best figure and there are more durable models. But this is not critical.

Basic settings such as selecting the DPI level and connection type are available without proprietary software. For everything else, HATOR Mouse Hub is used. The application interface is clear and there will be no special problems in use. The main functions are located in separate sections. The first is responsible for setting the actions on the buttons. In the same section, you can select the debounce time. In the second section, you can configure DPI levels, polling rate, surface separation height, smoothing (Ripple Control, Angle Snap), etc. The third section is for recording macros. The fourth and fifth are for backlighting and general settings, respectively.

What we liked
  • Excellent PixArt PAW 3950 optical sensor
  • Support for 8000 Hz polling rate
  • Connectivity versatility
  • Fast HATOR optical switches
  • Convenient shape and nice design
What we didn't like
  • Average battery life
  • No compact USB transmitter, radio connection only with cable and adapter

HATOR Quasar 3 Ultra 8K Wireless is a very successful universal gaming mouse that should be considered by users looking for a modern flagship model. It has a top-notch optical sensor, fast optical switches, supports a polling rate of up to 8000 Hz, has a classic, comfortable symmetrical shape and an interesting design with a pleasant coating. To this it is worth adding three connection options. If we talk about the less strong points, then this is a mediocre battery life. And it is not the most convenient decision to abandon the compact transmitter with a USB connector.
