Package contents
HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless is packed in the company's usual yellow box with all the basic information and an image of the headset.
In addition to the headphones, the kit includes a 2.4 GHz USB Type-C transmitter, a Type-C to USB Type-A adapter, a 1.3 m USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable, a 1 meter USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable, a detachable microphone, documentation, and a set of stickers.
Design and usability
HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless headphones are made of plastic and metal. The inner frame of the headband, as well as the places where the cups are attached to it, are made of metal. These elements are steel gray in color, regardless of the color option of the headphones themselves. The headset has a design familiar to full-size models with a sliding size adjustment mechanism.
The headphones have large closed cups that easily fit ears of any size. The plastic has a matte finish, which the company called UV-сoating. It is very similar to Soft Touch, so it is difficult to say how durable it is. But prints on it are quite noticeable. There are decorative metal inserts along the perimeter of the outer covers of the cups, and the logo in the middle has RGB backlighting.
The upper part of the cups contains microphones of the active noise cancellation system, as well as connecting cables in the form of springs that stretch when adjusting the size. All controls and connectors are located on the left earcup. In addition to the buttons, volume wheel and Type-C, the earcup has a connector for an external microphone, as well as a hole for the built-in one.
The ear cushions are filled with special memory foam and covered with protein leather. The ear cushions are soft, large, and provide very good passive noise isolation in addition to the active noise cancellation system.
The headband has a familiar sliding design with a fairly large adjustment range, so the headphones will suit most users. There is a soft insert with foam inside in the upper part. Unlike the Phoenix 2 Wireless, the model on review does not have a folding design and swivel cups. Of course, thanks to the presence of Bluetooth and a built-in microphone, the HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless can be used as a headset, but still the model is more suitable for use at home.
The detachable microphone has a flexible stand that allows you to adjust its position, as well as a foam windscreen. It can be removed, but in this case, extraneous noise will be picked up much more actively.
The weight of the HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless is 330 g. Thanks to the good design, the weight distribution is quite comfortable and the headset does not weigh you down during prolonged use. However, due to the ear cushions with protein leather upholstery, it gets a little hot during long gaming sessions.
Connection and control
HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless supports three connection options. Via cable, via 2.4 GHz radio channel, and via Bluetooth 5.4. The headset supports AAC, SBC, and LDAC codecs. It can work with smartphones on Android, iOS, PCs, and Sony PlayStation game consoles. When connecting via 2.4 GHz radio channel, ClearScan technology is used. It is claimed that the headset scans and selects the least loaded frequency for stable operation. The connection is stable both via radio channel and Bluetooth. There are no gaps even through 2 walls. As with the previous Phoenix 2 Wireless model, the USB transmitter is made of two parts. The smaller one has a Type-C connector. It can be used with both PCs and smartphones. And the larger part, which is actually an adapter with a full-size USB connector.
The controls on the headphones are minimal. A volume wheel and two physical buttons, between which there is an LED indicator. These are the power and active noise cancellation buttons, which are used for all the provided quick settings. So it is not surprising that long, double and triple presses are used. The scheme is not very convenient and the settings are not supported.
Pressing the power button for 4 and 6 seconds turns it on and off, respectively. Single press - play/pause, answer a call. Double press - choose between 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth. Triple press - choose between gaming and music profiles. And four presses - turn off the backlight. Single press on the ANC button cycles through noise cancellation modes (active, transparency, inactive). Double press - mutes the microphone. And triple press turns on Spatial Audio and head tracking.
Functionality
For HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless settings, the HATOR SyncHUB mobile application is used exclusively. While the USB version of the headset has software for PC as well. The decision to abandon the desktop application in many new models is quite controversial. For some, this is enough, for others it will not be very convenient. The mobile application works in both 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth modes. provided that it is previously paired with a smartphone.
The HATOR SyncHUB application has a simple and intuitive interface, but the functionality is not yet very wide. The main screen has an image of the headphones, the charge level, the active noise cancellation system mode switch, as well as microphone and backlight switches. The second tab is responsible for sound settings: equalizer and ready-made presets. In the upper right corner of the screen is a button to go to an additional menu. It has voice prompt language settings (English, Polish, French, German and Ukrainian), changing the device name, a headphone search function, going to the online store and database. So far, these are all useful functions.
It is worth mentioning the support for Spatial Audio and head tracking. Their use makes sense primarily when playing games or watching movies. It is also worth trying for listening to or watching live concert recordings.
Sound quality, noise cancellation, and microphone
HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless uses the familiar 40mm dynamic drivers with neodymium magnets and Driver Cavity system. The speakers are capable of reproducing 10Hz to 44kHz. The digital part is represented by a 24-bit 96kHz DAC with Hi-Res certification and a 32-bit sound processing processor. Interestingly, the USB version of HATOR Hypergang 3 received larger 53mm drivers.
The headphones have two ready-made quick presets: for games and for music. Games sound really good with the appropriate preset: good positioning of sound sources, good reproduction of explosions, gunshots, footsteps, engine noise, etc. The gaming preset also sounds quite good when watching movies.
When listening to music, you should first try the Custom equalizer mode without making any changes to it. With it, the sound in music is the most balanced: without unnatural dips or peaks in certain areas of the frequency range. The sound has a sufficient amount of dense, deep bass with a good attack. The midrange sounds quite natural, which is especially audible when playing vocals and live instruments. The high frequencies, of course, are slightly smoothed, which is done to make the sound more massive. After all, there are many users who do not perceive too bright treble. But there are enough high frequencies in quantity, thanks to which the sound does not turn into a rumble with overload in the bass.
HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless have a hybrid active noise cancellation system. For its operation, four external microphones and two inside the cups are provided. The manufacturer indicates on the official website that the system uses 20 double-precision Biquad filters for each type of compensation. The sampling frequency is up to 750 kHz, and the delay is only 0.0075 ms. The active noise cancellation system works very well and effectively removes monotonous background low-frequency noise. Of course, things are not so good with sharp sounds (like a mechanical keyboard). But the ANC system, together with passive noise isolation, reduces them to a comfortable level that allows you not to be distracted from your favorite music. But it is worth noting that the ANC system puts a little pressure on your ears, which is not the case in more expensive models.
HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless has a detachable directional microphone with a sensitivity of -38 ± 3 dB with a standard foam windscreen. It transmits voice well, almost does not pick up extraneous sounds in a not very noisy room. Of course, this is not the quality of a separate microphone for bloggers, but for video conferences and online gaming sessions it is more than enough. The built-in microphones have electronic noise cancellation (ENC), but their quality is mediocre. Although they are quite suitable for a quick phone conversation.
Battery life
The HATOR Hypergang 3 Wireless is equipped with a 750 mAh battery. It is claimed that this is enough for 40 hours of battery life, although it is not specified at what volume and whether with active noise cancellation. According to our own observations, with RGB lighting and ANC, the headphones work for a little over 30 hours, which is quite a good indicator. At the same time, the volume was mostly at 60%, because the headphones have a really large reserve. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge.
