The European Union will allocate 1 billion euros for the purchase of Ukrainian weapons

- 8 May, 06:55 PM

This was stated in Warsaw during a press conference following the informal meeting of foreign ministers of the European Union countries, by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, Ukrinform reports.

"Tomorrow we are going to Ukraine (to Lviv - ed.), and we will be ready to provide 1 billion euros for the Ukrainian defense industry. This is very important for Ukraine. Also tomorrow we will give the final political approval for the creation of the Tribunal for War Crimes and the Crime of Aggression. There will be no impunity, there will be responsibility for the crimes that were committed, including for those who actually started this war," Kallas noted.

This is probably about allocating 1 billion euros from the proceeds from frozen Russian assets for the production of Ukrainian weapons, as reported in April by the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova. In 2024, the European Union thus allocated 400 million euros for the purchase of Ukrainian weapons.

Earlier, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius said that the European Union could double military assistance to Ukraine in 2025 by placing a large order with our factories, which produce weapons half as cheaply as Western defense corporations.

In total, Western partners have already financed orders for Ukrainian weapons worth over $1.5 billion.
