The Verkhovna Rada has previously supported the creation of the Cyber Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with 255 MPs in favor
The Verkhovna Rada has taken a step towards the creation of the Cyber Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The relevant draft law No. 12349 has been adopted as a basis. This was announced by Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"We are launching a new military command body within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will be responsible for the state's cyber defense. Cyber forces will operate under the direct military leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and under the overall leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief - the President of Ukraine," the head of the Ministry of Defence wrote.
He explained that among the main tasks of Cyberforce will be:
- protection of electronic communications systems and technological process control systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- preparation and conduct of military cyber operations;
- military cooperation with NATO and other partners to counter common threats in cyberspace.
According to the Minister of Defence, Cyber Forces will also be able to recruit civilians who will not acquire the status of military personnel and will perform tasks in accordance with the concluded contract.
It should be noted that the draft law "On Cyber Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on December 19, 2024. In the first reading, it was supported by 255 people's deputies.
