The UK and Germany will jointly develop a new "deep precision strike" weapon with a range of more than 2,000 km, Reuters reports, citing a statement from the British government.
According to the publication, Europe's two largest economies are strengthening their cooperation in the defense sector.
The long-range weapons project is expected to be announced by British Defense Secretary John Healy and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius at a meeting in Berlin.
"In a more dangerous world, NATO and European allies stand united," John Healey said in a statement.
There is no more detailed information about the project's timeline and budget in the application.
The project builds on commitments to develop new weapons in 2024. At that time, the countries signed a bilateral defense agreement and emphasized the need for Europe to be able to defend itself against any escalation of the war in Ukraine.
After the signing of this agreement, Donald Trump won the US presidential election and made it clear that he expected Europe to take responsibility for its own security. This led to a struggle on the continent to find ways to develop its domestic defense industry.
