Ukraine tested domestic analogue of Russian KABs – video

- 25 June, 05:03 PM

The Ukrainian analogue of the Russian UMPK kits, also known as KAby, is already undergoing testing and has reached a range of 60 km. It was developed by the Medoid design bureau, Defense Express writes.

The Ukrainian version of the UMPK is a wing with a flight correction system that is mounted on a conventional 500 kg aircraft bomb. The first images published by the Ukrainian publication show that the Ukrainian KAB was tested from a Su-24 front-line bomber.

According to the developers, their module is installed on the bomb within a few minutes. The wings and components of the module are manufactured by Ukrainian enterprises. The navigation is also domestically produced, but, as noted in the design bureau, there is already a decision to test systems from a leading French manufacturer on the Ukrainian KAB in order to reduce the effectiveness of enemy electronic warfare.

The cost of one research module is currently 1.2 million hryvnias, or $25,000. It is possible that the price of the product will be lower if mass production is carried out.

It is assumed that the developers will be able to achieve a flight range of up to 80 km, which is 20 km more than the already achieved indicators. Currently, the bombs were dropped from horizontal flight.

The Medoid Design Bureau emphasizes that despite good results, the main problem with the development remains the lack of money.

Recall that recently, the Ukrainian military destroyed a stronghold of the Russian army using a new Ukrainian ammunition weighing over 100 kg. The video of the defeat was shared by the Ukrainian technocluster Brave1.
