100 times faster than a sapper: Ukraine has created an AI drone to survey mined lands

- 27 June, 01:59 PM

A new Ukrainian technology with artificial intelligence allows you to explore mined territory 100 times faster than a sapper. The development was presented by the company UADamage.

The developers have integrated artificial intelligence into a drone, which allows it to survey 10,000 square meters per day. For comparison, in the same time, one person can walk 100 sq. m, Brave1 said in a press release. The accuracy of detecting explosive devices is 5 centimeters.

For the system to work, four sensors are installed on the drone: an RGB and infrared camera, a magnetometer and a ground-penetrating radar. The data from all devices is combined and forms a detailed map of the mined area. After the drone lands, the information is transferred to the computer in no more than 10 minutes.

The company attracted grants from Brave1 to create this technology. It managed to purchase special sensors, as well as create the technology itself based on AI, which is able to detect various types of mines and explosive objects automatically. And recently, UADamage attracted $400,000 in investment for scaling.

To date, the company has already flown over 61,000 sq. m of minefields and digitized 520,000 sq. m of territories. In the future, the developers plan to integrate their technology into ground robots.
