Ukrainian unmanned boat shoots down Russian plane for the first time in history

- 3 May, 12:18 PM

Near the port of Novorossiysk, Ukrainian surface drones equipped with aircraft missiles hit a Russian Su-30 fighter jet, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) and a number of Russian military sources report.

"The historic strike was carried out by soldiers of the GUR Group 13 special forces unit with a Magura unmanned sea platform missile. The multi-purpose fighter of the aggressor state Russia, whose estimated cost is about $50 million, burst into flames in the air and eventually fell into the sea - to the bottom of the ruthless Neptune's possessions," the GUR reported.

The Main Intelligence Directorate officially announced last year that MAGURA unmanned boats were equipped with Soviet R-73 air-to-air missiles with infrared guidance. Thanks to this, in December, operators destroyed the first air targets – two Russian Mi-8 helicopters.

The Soviet R-73 missile is in service with dozens of countries around the world. It was originally designed to be launched from Soviet fighter jets, but was later adapted for launch from land and sea platforms. Even before the start of the Great War, Ukrainian enterprises announced their mastery of repairing and modernizing these missiles.

Updated: The War Zone, citing the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, writes that the plane was hit by an American AIM-9 aircraft missile, which was also integrated into a naval platform. At the same time, two planes were allegedly shot down, but one of them was not captured on video.
