Ukrainian turret "Burya" successfully integrated into Estonian unmanned complex THeMIS
Ukrainian defense tech company Frontline, in collaboration with Estonian robotics manufacturer Milrem Robotics, has successfully integrated the Burya grenade launcher turret for the 40mm Mk-19 grenade launcher with the THeMIS ground-based unmanned system, according to a Frontline press release.
The integration was proven effective during live fire tests in Ukraine, which took place as part of the updated Automated Turret Instructor Training Program. The integrated system demonstrated accurate engagement of targets at distances of 1100+ m.
"During the tests, the THeMIS ground combat complex demonstrated excellent maneuverability, stability, and cross-country ability... Successful firings also demonstrated the versatility of the THeMIS platform in working with various types of weapons," the report says.
According to the Ukrainian company, a series of additional tests are planned in the coming weeks to combat-prove the system and verify its stability in various application scenarios. The next stage will be the integration of the complex into existing mission planning scenarios, as well as the adaptation of solutions to specific battlefield tasks for further scaling.
Frontline noted that THeMIS became the first unmanned ground-based complex in its class that the Armed Forces of Ukraine used to perform combat missions. The Burya grenade launcher turret has been in service with military units since January 2025 and is already being mass-produced.
Recall that in July, Ukrainian Frontline signed a strategic agreement with German-Ukrainian drone manufacturer Quantum Systems. The agreement became a new stage in the companies' cooperation. It was preceded by a Memorandum of Strategic Partnership signed in April 2025.
