Zelenskyy: Ukraine and the EU will catch up with the Russian Federation in terms of artillery shot production in 2026
In 2026, the volume of artillery shell production in Ukraine and the European Union will reach a level similar to that of the Russians. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with journalists, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
At the same time, the head of state is convinced that in the future the artillery track may become stronger than that of the enemy.
"In 2026, the European Union and I are aiming for a production volume of artillery rounds that will be equal to that of the Russian Federation. Therefore, if our partners accelerate their production a little, in the future we can be stronger than Russia in terms of artillery. This is an important track," he noted.
In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy drew attention to the fact that today there is a surplus of artillery systems produced by Ukraine.
"But there is another issue there – the issue of the 155th caliber. That is, if you have enough systems, you cannot replace the old Soviet ones with some guys and give them this gun, because the 155th caliber is not enough for such a number. Although, of course, we are going in the right direction, there will be enough systems, the army will have the 155th caliber," the head of state said.
According to the President, the issue is also to have the appropriate number of shells at the same time. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, partners are helping Ukraine with this.
Recently, the head of state also stated that our country was able to establish the production of domestic artillery in record speed and quality. According to him, the production of the Bohdana self-propelled guns reached 40 units per month. He also added that last year we manufactured and delivered to the front 2.4 million mortar and artillery ammunition of various calibers.
