On May 23, 2025, a meeting was held between representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and a Swedish delegation led by Thomas Linden, Director of the Ukrainian Affairs Department of SAAB. The press service of the Ministry of Defense reports.
The main topic of the talks was the modernization of Soviet aircraft in service with Ukraine. The possibilities of integrating modern avionics, including advanced radars, defense systems and electronic warfare, were discussed. This should significantly increase the effectiveness of Ukrainian aviation in combat conditions.
"Ukrainian-Swedish cooperation in this area will be mutually beneficial, as Ukraine will enhance the capabilities of its aircraft, while Sweden will gain insights from the combat experience gained through their deployment," said Oleksandr Kozenko, Deputy Minister of Defense for Aviation Development.
The possibility of transferring Swedish aircraft manufactured by SAAB to Ukraine was also considered, but final agreements have not yet been reached. The parties agreed to continue consultations and technical discussions to implement joint plans.
