Ukraine and Germany have signed important investment agreements aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. This was announced today in Berlin during a joint press conference by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The Ministers of Defense of the two countries, Boris Pistorius and Rustem Umerov, signed documents that provide for financing the production of Ukrainian long-range weapons worth hundreds of millions of euros and the purchase of German weapons systems. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
One of the key aspects of the agreement is Germany's investment in weapons production in Ukraine. This will allow it to leverage existing technologies and production capacities to create modern weapons systems.
In addition, Ukraine has signed a contract with the German company Diehl Defence for the production of IRIS-T anti-aircraft missile systems and ammunition for them. The value of the agreement is estimated at 2.2 billion euros. It also provides for financing of repair infrastructure and the creation of a joint venture between defense companies of the two countries.
The total amount of the aid package from Germany is about five billion euros, which includes the supply of ammunition, ground weapons, small arms, financing for military communications, and Ukrainian-made medical equipment.
According to Bild, Germany plans to allocate funding for the development and mass production of cruise missiles in Ukraine with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, but it has not yet been specified which specific missile models are in question.
Establishing mass production of such long-range weapons will allow the Ukrainian army to strike at strategic enemy targets deeper into its territory.
