Ukraine and the United Kingdom will sign a defense agreement on July 10 to supply five thousand missiles for Ukrainian air defense. Information about this appeared on the website of the United Kingdom government.
The contract, worth a total of £2.5bn, will see the production of anti-aircraft missiles over the next 19 years. The signing will take place at the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in Rome. In addition to the main agreement, the UK will provide Ukraine with up to £283m in bilateral aid in 2026.
We are talking about the 70 mm FZ275 LGR missiles, developed by the Belgian company Thales. This is a low-cost version of an aircraft missile with a semi-active homing head, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 3 km. It is compatible with the Vampire anti-aircraft systems used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to combat drones, which will allow mobile groups to have an alternative to machine guns and save on expensive missiles.
Recall that at the end of last year, Ukraine and Belgium signed a Memorandum on the joint production of FZ275 LGR missiles to counter enemy UAVs.
