Norwegian Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace is deepening cooperation with Ukraine to produce new versions of air defense missiles. The agreements were announced during the opening of the defense company's office in Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Strategic Industry and Trade reports.
First of all, we are talking about the development and production of Ukrainian versions of missiles for the Norwegian-American NASAMS air defense systems.
The opening of a representative office of the Norwegian KDA in Ukraine will allow for the development of joint production of air and sea unmanned systems, air defense systems, and the improvement of high-tech weapons. A memorandum on this has been signed with two Ukrainian companies.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stressed that a number of joint solutions based on the NASAMS air defense system will soon be developed. In addition, increased cooperation with Kongsberg will allow improving the air defense systems already available in the Ukrainian army, which will become a key element for protecting the population and critical infrastructure against the backdrop of constant Russian shelling.
"This month alone, the enemy has carried out over 3,500 missile and UAV launches. We are working on scaling up production and accelerating deliveries," the head of the Ministry of Defense noted.
It was previously reported that Norwegian Kongsberg is developing cooperation with American Raytheon to develop a new GhostEye radar for the NASAMS air defense system. The new mobile sensor complex will allow detecting aircraft, helicopters, drones and missiles at medium ranges.
