US allows Germany to transfer Patriot and HIMARS missiles to Ukraine

Germany will transfer missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems and HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine, Militarny reports, citing The New York Times. This decision was made possible thanks to the official permission of the US government, since a critical part of these weapons is produced in America and cannot be transferred to third countries without a corresponding decision.

Germany plans to supply Ukraine with 125 GMLRS missiles for HIMARS, which are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 150 km, and 100 missiles for the Patriot air defense system, which will help shoot down enemy ballistic missiles.

This is an important decision for our country, but European countries are expressing concern about continued support for Ukraine after Donald Trump became US President, since the bulk of the weapons being transferred to Ukraine are manufactured in America, and Trump is calling on European states to take more responsibility for their own security and assistance to Ukraine.

The US position is also reflected in Australia’s delay in transferring 49 Abrams tanks in the M1A1 AIM-SA modification. Australia announced its decision to transfer these tanks to Ukraine in October last year, but the US has still not granted permission for their transfer.

However, it was recently announced that the Donald Trump administration has authorized the transfer of $50 million in military aid to Ukraine through Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) . This aid will include the export of defense-related goods, including technical data and defense services to Ukraine. This is the first such decision since Trump returned to the US presidency.
