The United States has introduced a new unmanned system, LUCAS (Low-Cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System), which is positioned as a cheap and functional analogue of the Iranian Shahed-136 drone. This is reported by Defense Blog.

The drone was unveiled in the Pentagon courtyard, attended by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as part of a demonstration of autonomous systems for multi-domain operations. The UAV was developed by Arizona-based SpektreWorks.

LUCAS is classified as a reliable and cost-effective drone suitable for use in difficult environments with minimal logistical needs. It has an open architecture that allows the integration of different types of payloads - from reconnaissance to strike missions and communications support.

The device can function as a target or as a combat drone with optional power. Available launch options include a truck launch or a rocket booster launch. This allows the system to be quickly deployed without special training of personnel.

LUCAS is capable of autonomously interfacing with other devices and performing strikes using network-centric capabilities at lower costs compared to traditional platforms. The drone’s onboard network supports remote switching of equipment during flight and power from 28V and 12V sources.

LUCAS is also expected to act as a repeater. According to SpektreWorks, the system has already been tested and is ready for production.

Analysts believe that LUCAS will be able to strengthen the US's capacity for dispersed operations, especially in the Indo-Pacific region.
