NATO has tested a surface drone equipped with two flying unmanned aircraft. According to the Alliance, after completing the tasks, the UAVs can return to the surface platform. This is reported by Militarnyi.
So far, surface drones are being tested mostly for reconnaissance missions. Experts are evaluating their effectiveness in the marine environment. Unmanned aerial vehicles allow for real-time surveillance.
The drones are not mounted inside the drone, but on special external platforms. The drone also has a camera mounted on its superstructure, which provides a view of the surrounding space.
The Alliance emphasizes the current unstable situation in the field of maritime security. To effectively respond to modern challenges, NATO has formed "Task Force X".
The initiative aims to introduce innovative approaches, such as the use of maritime drones and artificial intelligence, to enhance safety at sea. The main task is to collect information on current unmanned systems and advanced technologies, as well as its integration into a single information network.
By the way, Taiwan is studying the experience of Ukraine, which effectively uses naval drones in the Black Sea against Russia, to understand how such UAVs can be used to protect against a possible Chinese invasion.
