Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced that as of August 2025, Ukraine had received one million large-caliber artillery ammunition under the "Czech Initiative." He made the announcement after a meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing," which was attended for the first time by US Vice President J.D. Vance.

Fiala noted that coalition countries have reached agreement on further actions. He also confirmed coordination with US President Donald Trump ahead of a planned meeting in Alaska.

The "Czech Initiative" for the supply of heavy ammunition to Ukraine was launched by President Petr Pavel in February 2024. Its main goal is to provide Ukraine with 155 mm and 122 mm artillery shells purchased from countries outside the European Union.

The program has received support from more than 18 countries, including the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, France, Poland, and others. Each participating country independently determines the amount of funding and types of ammunition purchased for further supply to Ukraine.

As Czech President Petr Pavel previously stated, in 2025, the program plans to transfer at least 1.8 million shells to Ukraine. In 2024, this figure was about 1.5 million units.

In June of this year, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky announced that Prague plans to extend the "Czech Initiative" for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine until 2026. According to him, these supplies played a key role on the battlefield, significantly improving the position of Ukrainian troops.
