Ukraine presents unmanned robot for firefighting at strategic facilities

- 3 October, 04:05 PM

The new Tengu-5 ground-based robotic complex for firefighting at military and energy facilities was presented at the SECURITY 2.0 exhibition in Kyiv. The robot was developed at the request of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

The main purpose of the robot is to extinguish burning energy and military facilities, near which rescuers cannot be located due to danger. For example, chemical plants, oil and gas wells, oil pumping stations, ammunition or chemical warehouses.

For remote firefighting, Tengu-5 is equipped with special mounts for the StreamMaster II high-performance monitor, a device through which water is thrown onto a burning object. While moving, the robot pulls a water hose, which is deployed either from a fire truck or another water supply source. Thus, the robot can work a kilometer away from rescuers.

Tactical Technology said that the prototype of their robot currently has a Chinese tracked chassis, on which they installed their own armored platform. It has a STANAG 4569 level 1 protection level, which provides protection of the equipment from shrapnel. Currently, the company has already developed technical documentation for its own chassis, which they will produce independently after the robot is launched into series production.

Inside the NRC are the engine, water supply systems, life support devices, hatches for servicing units and transporting rescue equipment.

A camera complex with a 30x optical zoom and a thermal imager was installed on the body. On the left side of the robot, there is a place for evacuation stretchers. Optionally, the robot can be equipped with the Morok-5 electronic warfare system.

The robot has a maximum speed of 10 km/h. It is equipped with a 2.2-liter diesel engine. A winch with a pulling force of 2 tons is installed in the front of the NRK frame.

It is expected that Tengu-5 will be deployed near important energy facilities or at rescue stations in conjunction with other rescue equipment of the State Emergency Service. The robot is currently undergoing a series of tests.

It should be noted that this is not the first example of the use of military technology for humanitarian tasks. Previously, we wrote about the technology developed in Ukraine that allows transporting a donor heart using drones. For this, the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine used a PD-2 reconnaissance drone. Read more about this in the text of Defense: A drone with a heart.
