The U.S. Department of Defense announced the signing of new long-term contracts, three of which are worth nearly $200 million under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, Military Journal reports. They cover the supply of armored vehicles, small arms, and technical support for counter-drone systems.

  • Textron Systems Corp. has been awarded a $163.3 million contract to produce mobile fire vehicles, spare parts, special tools, and test equipment. The work is scheduled to be completed by November 2028. According to Military Journal, the contract is likely for the production of 65 MSFV armored personnel carriers (a modification of the M1117 armored personnel carrier), for which the United States recently announced a tender.
  • Knight's Armament Co. has been awarded a $21.25 million contract to manufacture and supply M110 SASS semi-automatic sniper rifles chambered in 7.62×51 mm NATO with a firing range of up to 800 m. Work is scheduled to be completed by January 2027.
  • Sierra Nevada Corp. has been awarded a $14.99 million contract to provide technical services and expert support to the Ukrainian Navy as part of its Counter-Unmanned Systems program. The work includes equipment maintenance, expert consultations, and remote systems support. Completion is expected in September 2027.

All contracts are funded by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative for fiscal year 2024.

The Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) is a Pentagon funding source for the procurement, training, and delivery of defense equipment and services to Ukraine. Through this initiative, the U.S. Department of Defense orders equipment directly from American manufacturers.

By the way, it recently became known that at the end of September, a Ukrainian delegation will arrive in the United States to negotiate the legal part of the agreement on joint weapons production.
