The United States and Germany have agreed to transfer five Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, reports European Pravda. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during the opening of the 29th meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues in Ukraine in the Ramstein format, which took place today, July 21.

Pistorius said the agreement was reached last week during his visit to Washington, where he held talks with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. He noted that the Patriot systems would be transferred to Ukraine "as soon as possible," given their urgent need.

The Minister also announced that coordination with partners on the mechanisms for implementing the transfer of weapons is planned over the next few days. In addition to the aforementioned systems, Germany intends to provide Ukraine with additional air defense systems and ammunition.

The Ramstein Group meeting today brought together 52 countries and launched a 50-day arms campaign for Ukraine. Additional decisions on defense support are expected to be announced by September.

By the way, the US Department of Defense recently informed Switzerland that it will review the priorities for the supply of Patriot systems to support Ukraine. As a result, Switzerland will receive the ordered systems later than planned.

It is noted that in 2022, Switzerland ordered five Patriot air defense systems with scheduled delivery in 2027–2028. However, on July 16, 2025, the US Department of Defense informed the Swiss Federal Department of Defense that the country would also be affected by the new priority system and that deliveries to Switzerland would be delayed.
