The U.S. Department of State has approved a request from the Ukrainian government to purchase equipment and services to support the operation of Patriot air defense systems. The total estimated cost of the package is $179.1 million.

The list includes classified and unclassified spare parts, software upgrades, system modifications, test equipment, communications, accessories, tools, and integration, repair, storage, and return services. In addition, technical assistance from U.S. government officials and contractors, training, engineering and logistical support, and publications and technical documentation are also provided.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has already submitted a corresponding notification to the US Congress. The statement states that the proposed sale is in the foreign policy and national interests of the United States, as it contributes to strengthening the security of a partner country.

The program is expected to involve approximately five U.S. government representatives and fifteen representatives from contracting organizations working within U.S. European Command. Their participation will include training activities and periodic meetings.

This decision was the second in recent times: previously, the US agreed to the possible sale of ERAM air-to-surface missiles and related equipment to Ukraine for $825 million. According to media reports, the supply of missiles could begin within six weeks.
