Ukraine is a priority: US postpones Patriot deliveries to Switzerland

The US Department of Defense has informed Switzerland that it will review the priorities for the supply of Patriot systems to support Ukraine. As a result, Switzerland will receive the ordered systems later than planned, according to information from the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports (DDPS).

According to the department, the Swiss Federal Council has already been informed of this decision.

"The US wants to strengthen its support to Ukraine. Countries now supplying weapons systems to Ukraine will be able to replace them faster. The US has therefore decided to reprioritize the delivery of Patriot ground-based air defense systems. Germany, among others, has decided to once more supply two of their Patriot systems to Ukraine," the DDPS report says.

The department noted that in 2022, Switzerland ordered five Patriot air defense systems with scheduled delivery in 2027–2028. However, on July 16, 2025, the US Department of Defense informed DDPS that the country would also be affected by the new priority system and that deliveries to Switzerland would be delayed.

It is currently unclear how many systems will be delayed and whether this will affect the supply of guided missiles. There is also no exact information yet on the new delivery dates.

The DDPS reminded that this is not the first delay. A year ago, the US warned Switzerland that the supply of PAC-3 MSE guided missiles for Patriot systems would also be postponed in order to prioritize supporting Ukraine.
