The Swedish government has approved a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth 1.5 billion Swedish kronor (about 130 million euros), the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence reported. The aid includes weapons and Volvo and Scania trucks intended to improve logistics.
The package includes:
• over 10 new barrels for Archer self-propelled artillery systems
• long-range and underwater vehicles
• Volvo and Scania trucks, a new container system for accelerated unloading of equipment.
"Archer has already proven its effectiveness on the battlefield. Additional assistance will allow us to even better deter the enemy and strike him where he least expects it," the Ministry of Defence noted.
As a reminder, Sweden officially transferred the first 8 Archer self-propelled guns to Ukraine in November 2023. These installations entered service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of military assistance.
In March 2025, Sweden signed a contract to manufacture and supply Ukraine with an additional 18 Archer self-propelled guns and 5 ARTHUR counter-battery radars. The value of this deal is about $300 million. These installations are still in the process of being manufactured and supplied.
Archer is a Swedish wheeled 155mm self-propelled howitzer with an automated firing system. Its deployment/retraction time is about 20 seconds, and the maximum firing range is up to 60 km when using Excalibur guided ammunition. High accuracy, rate of fire (up to 9 rounds per minute), and the ability to quickly change position make Archer quite effective on the battlefield.
As of July 2025, the Oryx portal has not recorded any losses of the Archer self-propelled guns by Ukraine, only one was recorded as damaged, which indicates its high survivability.
