Thanks to interceptor drones, the military shot down 33 Russian UAVs overnight
Unmanned systems forces shot down 33 enemy drones during the Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of June 6 thanks to interceptor drones. They were "hunted down" by fighters from the "Clear Sky" project. This was reported by the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk.
According to him, in total, the hunters from "Clear Sky" have already intercepted 261 targets.
The project appeared in the Kyiv region and is a direct response to the tactics of massive attacks by enemy kamikaze drones. Defenders use interceptor drones to destroy UAVs in the sky before they can harm civilians and infrastructure.
In May, Mykola Kalashnyk announced the formation of new teams and the training of new interceptor operators. At the same time, he reported that the project's experience is already extending beyond the Kyiv region and being scaled to other regions.
It was previously reported that the Unmanned Systems Forces are actively scaling up this area. The approach is considered cost-effective, as the cost of an air defense missile can reach $1 million, while an interceptor drone can cost about $5,000.
By the way, the development of new technology for intercepting Russian drones is especially important at a time when the aggressor seeks to increase the production of drones. According to the GUR, in Russia, the production of "Shaheeds" and imitators of this drone as of May 2025 reached about 170 units per day. By the end of the year, the figure is planned to be increased to 190 drones per day.
