Swedish Saab has developed a cheap Nimbrix missile against drones

- 28 August, 02:45 PM

The Swedish company Saab has unveiled the development of Nimbrix, which it describes as the first ever specialized missile for destroying drones. This is stated in a press release from the manufacturer.

Saab says the new missile is designed to counter the growing threat of small drones on the battlefield. It is a "fire-and-forget" system, meaning it doesn't need to be aimed at a target until it's hit.

Nimbrix is equipped with a homing head with a powerful warhead. It is also noted that the new product is cheap, but its cost is not mentioned. The missile will have a flight range of up to 5 km, it can destroy swarms of drones using the air burst mode.

"Nimbrix is our answer to the unmanned aerial threats which have escalated in the last few years. It is cost-effective which is critical given the proliferation of UASs on the battlefield. Nimbrix benefits from our long experience of air defence, together with an agile way of responding to new needs," said Stefan Oberg, Head of Saab's Missile Systems Business Unit.

The company notes that the missile operates as a ground-based system, and can be operated either independently or as part of a more powerful air defense system. Nimbrix can be installed on various vehicles or at stationary positions.

Saab plans to make first deliveries in 2026, and the official presentation is scheduled for the DSEI exhibition in London from September 9-15.

Recall that earlier the Wild Hornets accelerated the Sting interceptor drone to a new record. Its speed exceeded 315 km/h.
