At Renault, the idea of producing drones for Ukraine worries some employees
At Renault, the idea of assembling drones for Ukraine is causing concern among some of the company's employees, the French resource bfmtv reported, citing trade union representatives.
The CGT union says some workers are asking if they can opt out of drone production. A representative of the FO union also spoke about the employees' dissatisfaction.
"Many employees have approached us, they signed a contract to produce cars, not weapons," he said.
This topic is even more delicate considering that, unlike defense companies, Renault hires many foreigners, including from Ukraine and Russia.
According to media reports, citizens of both countries work closely together on production lines, so a request to manufacture drones that are sent directly to the center of the conflict between the two countries could create tension.
Some employees also fear that Renault will become a target for cyberattacks, the intensity of which may increase over time.
One solution to the problem is to start drone production in Slovenia, so as not to involve French personnel. However, it is unclear whether this will be possible.
In addition, according to some reports, the CGT is closely linked to Russia, as historically the union has always been associated with the French Communist Party.
We will remind you that Renault discussed the production of drones in Ukraine with the French government. However, as of early June, no decision had been made on this matter.
