By the end of 2027, Poland intends to increase its annual production of 155-mm artillery shells to 180,000 units. This was announced by the country's Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a visit to the Nitro-Chem plant in the city of Bydgoszcz in the north of the country, Ukrinform reports.

According to Tusk, in December 2023, when his government came to power, Polish industry was producing only 5,000 such shells per year, which was very few given their active use in the Russian-Ukrainian war. In 2025, this figure should increase to about 30,000, and over the next two years, production will increase sixfold , to 180,000 units annually.

Tusk also added that, according to Nitro-Chem management forecasts, achieving this goal will fully meet the Polish army's needs for 155-mm ammunition.

The Polish Prime Minister also stressed that it is important for Warsaw to reduce its dependence on imported ammunition. His words are supported by the agreement between Poland and Slovakia to expand joint production of 155-mm shells, which indicates a strategic strengthening of the country's defense sector.

It was previously reported that Poland may complete the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine by the end of the year. This opinion was expressed by former Polish Minister of National Defense Janusz Onyszkiewicz, commenting on the transfer of German fighters to patrol Polish airspace and NATO's eastern flank.
