Poland tests swarms of cheap naval drones in the Baltic Sea for possible war with Russia

- 1 August, 09:14 PM

In Poland, the JW Formoza special forces unit is secretly testing American Rampage naval drones manufactured by HavocAI. The goal is to adapt the tactics used by the SBU and the GUR in naval operations against the Russian Federation. This is reported by Defence Express, citing Army Recognition. The exercises involve night navigation, intelligence gathering and infiltration scenarios, potentially preparing the Polish military for possible combat operations in the Baltic Sea.

HavocAI was founded 18 months ago, but it has already launched mass production of the Rampage Gen 1 and Gen 2 naval drones. These drones are capable of carrying payloads weighing up to 136 kg and are equipped with solar panels to extend their autonomy. For communication, they use a Starlink satellite antenna, similar to the one used by Ukrainian units.

Another feature of Rampage is the ability to form swarms that can be controlled by a single operator from anywhere in the world. The estimated price of one such drone is approximately $100,000, which is not much by today's standards.

In addition, HavocAI announced the development of larger drones up to 45 meters in size in partnership with Lockheed Martin. These will be integrated into a common control system with Rampage, allowing for the construction of scalable drone fleets for reconnaissance and strike operations.

It was previously reported that NATO is testing a surface drone equipped with two unmanned aerial vehicles.
