Poland may transfer the remaining MiG-29 fighters in service with the Polish army to Ukraine by the end of this year. Former Polish Minister of National Defense Janusz Onyszkiewicz told Ukrinform, commenting on the transfer of German fighters to patrol Polish airspace and NATO's eastern flank.

"The transfer of these MiGs must be completed. I think it will happen this year," said Janusz Onyszkiewicz.

He emphasized that these aircraft are very necessary for Ukraine to counter Russian cruise missiles and drones.

Earlier, the Polish Foreign Ministry noted that the transfer of MiG-29s to Ukraine would depend on when partners provide replacements for these aircraft. Poland's Chargé d'Affaires ai to Ukraine Piotr Lukasiewicz stressed that this process would take place in stages, as soon as the "gaps" in Poland's defense capabilities are "filled."

In 2023, Poland has already transferred some of its MiG-29s to Ukraine. According to official data, a total of 14 such aircraft have been transferred.

By the way, Ukraine is currently discussing a loan of 120 million euros with Poland for the purchase of Polish weapons. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga. He noted that Polish weapons, in particular the Piorun MANPADS and the Krab self-propelled guns, are effective and proven on the battlefield. In view of this, our country is ready to purchase this type of weapons.
