New American missile to replace ATACMS nears mass production
Lockheed Martin's Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) program has successfully completed a key phase of production qualification testing, paving the way for full-scale production, Defense Blog reports.
Tests conducted on April 24, 2025 at the White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico confirmed that the missile met key criteria such as range, accuracy, and reliability. According to Major General Frank Lozano, the PrSM will provide the US military with revolutionary capabilities, allowing it to engage targets at long distances with high accuracy.
The missile has a range of over 400 km and is being developed as part of the US Army's massive modernization program. It will replace the aging ATACMS system, offering better accuracy and adaptability in modern combat conditions.
The first operational tests are scheduled for May 2025, and a decision on serial production is expected by the end of the year. Lockheed Martin is using digital technologies to accelerate development and improve the reliability of the new weapon.
