Germany has already transferred over 60 Gepards to Ukraine, is preparing to send another IRIS-T
Ukraine has already received more than 60 Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery systems from Germany, and is also waiting for another IRIS-T air defense system. This was reported by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Oleksiy Makeyev, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
"We were given over 60 Gepards. That is, most of the cheetahs that could have been caught in the forests of the whole world have already been caught, and they are grazing in Ukrainian pastures," the diplomat said during a meeting with Ukrainian journalists in Kyiv.
According to Oleksiy Makeyev, the Gepard system has proven itself well in combat conditions, especially effective against Shahed drones. At the same time, he noted that Russian tactics for using these UAVs have changed, which makes them more difficult to defeat.
The ambassador also drew attention to the effectiveness of the Rheinmetall Skynex anti-aircraft artillery system, which is showing good results in the Air Force. According to him, Ukraine will continue to work on the supply of such systems.
"Moreover, there are already initial ideas between representatives of the defense industry of Ukraine and Germany to jointly build additional air defense systems. That is, take a gun from Rheinmetall, put it on a different chassis, and also incorporate missile systems," added Oleksiy Makeyev.
It was previously reported that the US and Germany agreed to transfer 5 Patriot systems to Ukraine as soon as possible.
