Lithuania will allocate €30 million for the purchase of Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine

- 26 July, 09:38 PM

Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovile Šakaliene announced her country's government's intention to provide up to 30 million euros for the purchase of American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems for Ukraine. This decision is part of a broader agreement between European NATO members and the United States on the supply of weapons to Kyiv. UNN writes this with reference to the Lithuanian National Radio and Television.

The statement came after a meeting of the Baltic defense ministers with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. According to Sakaliene, Lithuania supports the purchase of US-made weapons for Ukraine and sees the funding of Patriot systems as a strategic signal of support for President Donald Trump's decision.

In mid-July, Trump announced an agreement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to which European allies should purchase American weapons for Ukraine.

It was previously reported that the US Department of Defense is discussing possible bilateral agreements with a number of countries to supply American Patriots to Ukraine. In addition, according to the German Defense Minister, the US and Germany have agreed to transfer five Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine "as soon as possible."
