Ukraine has received the first batch of Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers from Latvia, which became part of a new military assistance package. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this after a conversation with his Latvian counterpart.

According to the agreement, Ukraine will receive a total of 42 units of this and other equipment for a total amount of about 70 million euros. It is reported that the first batch of Patria armored personnel carriers has already arrived in Ukraine, and the next one will arrive in the near future.

The Patria 6×6 is a modern multi-purpose combat vehicle developed by the Finnish company Patria, with a maximum weight of up to 24 tons, of which 8.5 tons is the combat load. It is equipped with a 400 hp turbodiesel engine and independent wheel suspension.

The main purpose of the vehicle is to transport personnel and weapons, as well as to perform tactical tasks in difficult combat conditions. The Patria 6×6 is able to overcome rough terrain, water obstacles and move at speeds of up to 100 km/h on roads. The vehicle has a range of up to 700 km without refueling. The design is based on a modular principle, which allows the vehicle to be adapted to perform various functions: from transporting soldiers to installing combat modules.

Patria 6×6 has basic protection according to the international STANAG standard, which provides protection against small arms, artillery fragments and mine explosions. If necessary, the vehicle can be upgraded with mounted armor for an increased level of protection. The landing compartment is designed for 10 servicemen, which makes the vehicle convenient for operational use.

According to preliminary information, the decision to transfer Patria armored personnel carriers was made by the Latvian Ministry of Defense on February 10, 2025. At that time, it was reported that this Latvian-made armored vehicle would arrive in Ukraine during 2025.
