British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has hinted that London may join Berlin in purchasing weapons from the United States for transfer to Ukraine, Bloomberg reports.
According to the publication's sources, relevant negotiations between the UK, the US and other European countries are at an early stage.
During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the British Prime Minister said that "we are working with allies to provide the capabilities" and "the support behind that to ensure the effectiveness of any capabilities in Ukraine." This was his response to the question of whether London would join US President Donald Trump's plan to send Patriot missiles to Ukraine, selling them to allies in Europe.
Recall that recently the American president promised Ukraine more weapons, and also threatened to impose 100% "secondary tariffs" on Russia if Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire within 50 days. Donald Trump also noted that NATO member countries will pay for the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
By the way, the US Department of Defense has informed Switzerland that it will review the priorities for the supply of Patriot systems to support Ukraine. As a result, Switzerland will receive the ordered systems later than planned.
As you know, each Patriot battery costs over $1 billion, and the missiles of this system cost about $4 million each.
