The radar manufacturer for IRIS-T plans to produce about 1,000 radars per year

The German company Hensoldt, which specializes in the development of radar systems, in particular for the IRIS-T SLM air defense system, has announced the expansion of production capacities. This is reported by the German publication Hartpunkt. According to company representatives, this decision is due to a massive increase in orders over the past two years.

To expand, the company has leased an industrial building near the city of Ulm in southern Germany, which it plans to convert for mass production of equipment. According to Hartpunkt, the project will invest an average of double-digit million euros.

The main task of the new site will be the production of radars for air defense systems and anti-drone equipment. Starting from 2027, the company plans to produce about 1,000 radars per year.

In July 2025, Hensoldt received a large order to supply equipment to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense. The total value of the package exceeds 340 million euros. It includes high-performance TRML-4D radars and SPEXER 2000 3D Mk.III short-range systems.

TRML-4D is built on the basis of AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) technology and is part of the IRIS-T SLM anti-aircraft missile system, which is already in service in Ukraine. This radar is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 1,500 targets within a radius of up to 250 km, including cruise missiles, drones, aircraft and helicopters.

In turn, the SPEXER family of systems includes multi-range surveillance radars for the detection and classification of ground, sea and low-altitude air targets. In particular, the SPEXER 2000 is integrated into Rheinmetall's new Skyranger 30 air defense gun system, and is also used in the German Feldlager (ASUL) unmanned systems and in the HowiSM project, which involves the use of a high-energy laser to combat drones.

It was also previously reported that Hensoldt is increasing production capacity to increase the production of TRML-4D radars. The company planned to increase production of these radars to 30 units per year.
